YOLO Board team rider Jessie Benson is preparing for her next big adventure: launching FloYo’s first Central American location in Nicaragua.  Here she tells us a little more of what she will be up to over the next few months in Nicaragua:

By many standards Nicaragua is somewhat of a new frontier in Central America.  Years of political and civil unrest left Nicaragua off the radar.  People flocked to Costa Rica for their Central American adventure without even thinking twice about the larger country just to the north.  But now that Nicaragua is stable and open for tourism people are starting to trickle on to the untouched beaches and surf the miles of empty swells.

So, out of all the places in the world I could have chosen for a FloYo affiliate you may be asking, why Nicaragua?  Well, let me fill you in. Nicaragua is a haven for adventure tourism.  If you are active and up for an adventure you will find dozens of adventures to keep you busy.  From paddling the largest lake in Central America (which has 365 islands off the shore including famous Monkey Island!) to boarding down the slopes of an active volcano the active traveler will find plenty to keep their adrenaline rush going.  Plus, its inexpensive and relatively easy to get to and very affordable once in the country.

FloYo’s newest location will be at Rancho Santana, a 2,700 acre ranch on the Pacific Coast. Rancho Santana has 5 beaches on property all offering different experiences.  From a 4-mile stretch of untouched sand at Playa Los Perros to the breathtaking Playa Duna you will wonder why it took you so long to find this picturesque seaside hideaway.  FloYo will be launching their SUP programming at the ranch in November and leading the first FloYo Retreat and Teacher Training January 10th-16h.

The FloYo retreat is designed to appeal to everyone from the casual paddler to the more adventurous paddler who wants to try SUP surfing on some of the best swells in Central America.  There will be daily yoga and fitness classes, SUP excursions, spa treatments and more!  Additionally, if you are interested in becoming a SUP and/or FloYo instructor there will be an opportunity to complete the 20 hour teacher training during the retreat as well!

The first few days of this adventure will take place on Isla Zapatera, a relatively undiscovered volcanic island on Lake Nicaragua.  With the Mombacho Volcano in the backdrop and the tranquil waters, Isla Zapatera is a picturesque paddle destination.  Next up we will head to Rancho Santana where the group will stay in one of the many beautiful villas on this exquisite property.  Days will be spent paddling the coastline and relaxing at the beach club and spa.  Activities such as horse back riding on the beach and visiting the nearby hot springs will be optional as well.
